BioPharma Crescent, a pharmaceutical and biotech development cluster initiative from North Carolina, joins the Clúster Tecnolóxico Empresarial das Ciencias da Vida (Bioga) as a member, further reinforcing its international outreach.
Santiago de Compostela, October 28, 2025. The Clúster Tecnolóxico e Empresarial das Ciencias da Vida de Galicia (Bioga) and BioPharma Crescent, a regional cluster initiative for economic development in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors of North Carolina (United States) — which brings together biopharmaceutical companies, R&D centres, universities, and economic development organizations — have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration between both ecosystems in areas such as innovation, biomanufacturing, talent development, and technology transfer.
The agreement, signed in Santiago de Compostela, represents a new step in consolidating institutional and business relations between Galicia and North Carolina. These ties began during the Galician mission to the United States led by Bioga in 2024, with the support of the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN), the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (IGAPE), and the Galician Health Cluster (CSG). During that visit, representatives of Galicia’s biotechnology ecosystem met with organizations from Research Triangle Park, Innovation Quarter in Winston-Salem, and with BioPharma Crescent representatives, establishing a foundation for cooperation that is now formalized through this alliance.
The agreement aims to facilitate collaboration between the two clusters in areas of mutual interest, including the exchange of information and best practices, the creation of links between companies and research centres, the promotion of bilateral missions, academic and scientific cooperation, specialized talent training, joint international promotion, and the identification of collaborative pilot projects in biomanufacturing, advanced therapies, digital health, and bioinformatics.
The alliance between Bioga and BioPharma Crescent will foster synergies that enhance competitiveness, innovation, and the international visibility of the biotechnology sector in both regions, promoting stable cooperation among their companies, universities, research centres, and public administrations. The agreement also envisions the creation of permanent communication channels between Bioga members and stakeholders from the North Carolina ecosystem, as well as the organization of joint activities in research, technology transfer, and investment attraction.
BioPharma Crescent becomes an honorary member of Bioga
As part of the signing, BioPharma Crescent has formally joined Bioga as an honorary member, reinforcing its commitment to the Galician biotechnology ecosystem and its willingness to actively participate in cooperation, internationalization, and innovation initiatives promoted by the cluster. This incorporation strengthens Bioga’s global reach and helps consolidate a stable bridge between Galicia and the United States, aligned with the internationalization and positioning strategy of Galicia’s biotechnology sector.
