Bioindustry Park and bioPmed, the Piedmont life sciences cluster, represented the region at BioJapan 2026 in Yokohama (7–9 October), opening new routes for partnerships, investment and business between Piedmont and Japan.
As part of the Italian Pavilion, Bioindustry Park and bioPmed brought to Japan the expertise, technologies and collaboration opportunities of the Piedmont life sciences ecosystem. Over three days of meetings with Japanese and international companies, investors, clusters and innovation organisations, the delegation strengthened existing relationships, built new connections and generated concrete opportunities for the companies and start-ups in its network.
BioJapan is one of Asia’s leading events for life sciences and the bioeconomy, and a key meeting point for companies, research organisations and investors. Italy’s collective participation, promoted and coordinated by the Tokyo Office of the Italian Trade Agency, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the international reach of its scientific and industrial excellence.
A regional team effort
The mission was carried out in close cooperation with CEIP – Piemonte Agency, the regional organisation that supports the internationalisation of Piedmontese companies and attracts foreign investment. Together, the partners coordinated meetings and presentations designed to position Piedmont as an ecosystem able to attract partnerships, innovation projects, investment and new business establishments.
Piedmont on stage: Invest in Italy
The Piedmont ecosystem played a leading role in the seminar Invest in Italy – A Worldwide Excellence in the Pharma & Biotech Industry. Before an international audience of companies and investors, Piedmont and Bioindustry Park were presented as a reference point for those seeking access to innovation, investment opportunities and a base from which to establish or expand their presence in Italy and Europe.
The presentation highlighted the opportunities the Piedmont hub offers to identify and support promising life sciences innovations, and to set up and grow business activities in Italy. Beyond its physical and industrial infrastructure, Bioindustry Park, together with bioPmed, provides access to a wider ecosystem of companies, start-ups, universities, research centres, hospitals, investors and international networks.
Clusters in dialogue at the BioCluster Summit
Piedmont was also featured at the BioCluster Summit, an international exchange among life sciences ecosystems and clusters with representatives from Italy, France, Australia and Belgium, among others. Gian Paolo Bruno, Director of the Italian Trade Agency’s Tokyo Office, presented Italy’s presence in Japan as the expression of integrated regional ecosystems, citing Bioindustry Park, bioPmed and CEIP – Piemonte Agency as representatives of Piedmont, alongside Invest in Tuscany and Toscana Life Sciences for Tuscany.
Why it matters for the CEBR network
BioPmed’s mission to Japan shows how regional clusters act as gateways for their ecosystems on the global stage, connecting local companies and start-ups with international partners and investors. It is the kind of cross-border reach that CEBR members bring to Europe’s life sciences landscape.
