BIOSPAIN is one of Europe’s leading biotechnology events, bringing together companies, investors, research organisations, institutions and other key stakeholders from across the life sciences ecosystem.
Organised by the Spanish Bioindustry Association (AseBio), BIOSPAIN has established itself as a major international meeting point for the biotech sector, particularly renowned for its extensive programme of one-to-one meetings and its strong participation from companies and professionals from outside Spain. In the latest edition, international delegates represented 30% of participants, while 32% of exhibitors came from outside the country.
A growing biotech ecosystem
The 2026 edition will take place in Bilbao, one of Spain’s most dynamic innovation hubs and home to a growing biotechnology and life sciences ecosystem.
Spain itself has a strong and expanding biotechnology landscape. Around 4,400 companies carried out biotechnology activities in 2024, including approximately 1,000 dedicated biotech firms. Human health remains the leading area of activity, accounting for 58% of biotech companies, alongside applications in food, agriculture, animal health, aquaculture, environmental and industrial biotechnology.
The country’s biotech activity is particularly concentrated in Catalonia, Madrid, Andalusia and the Basque Country. The Basque Country is home to a dynamic cluster of around 100 biotech companies, supported by a broader innovation ecosystem connecting industry, research and healthcare.
The sector also makes a significant contribution to the Spanish economy, generating more than €15 billion in revenue, €6 billion in gross value added and around 131,000 jobs in 2023.
A meeting point for the European life sciences ecosystem
Against this backdrop, BIOSPAIN offers an opportunity to explore emerging technologies, develop partnerships and strengthen connections across the European biotech community.
The event will be held at Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) in Barakaldo, less than 20 minutes from central Bilbao, bringing together the international biotech community in one of Europe’s major exhibition and congress venues.
For companies and organisations working across biotechnology, healthcare and life sciences, BIOSPAIN provides a valuable platform to connect, exchange knowledge and build new collaborations across Europe and beyond.
