The Council of European Bioregions highlights the engagement of its members in a newly released joint position paper calling for an ambitious EU Biotech Act II focused on biomanufacturing. The initiative, led by EuropaBio and supported by 40+ European, national and regional organisations, underscores the growing momentum around Europe’s industrial bioeconomy agenda.
The position paper calls for a dedicated European framework to accelerate the scale-up and market deployment of biomanufacturing across sectors. While Europe continues to demonstrate strong scientific excellence and innovation capacity, the paper highlights the importance of strengthening the pathways that enable innovation to reach industrial scale and market application.
Biomanufacturing is increasingly recognised as a key driver of resilient value chains, sustainable growth and high-quality employment across Europe’s regions. In this context, coordination at European level is seen as essential to fully unlock the potential of the bioeconomy and reinforce global competitiveness.
The participation of CEBR members in this joint initiative reflects the active role of Europe’s regional ecosystems in shaping the biomanufacturing agenda and supporting the transition from innovation to industrial deployment. Clusters play a key role in connecting research, industry and policy, enabling collaboration across sectors and supporting scale-up conditions across Europe.
A well-designed EU Biotech Act II has the opportunity to build on Europe’s strengths in science and innovation, while further enabling industrial capacity, market access and long-term competitiveness.
